Incorporating a stripped
back and lean design ethos, Copenhagen based Danish
special builder Wrenchmonkees have taken the SR400 and
with the collaboration of German specialized parts
company KEDO armed it for the inner-city jungle. With
chunky scrambler-style tyres, a titanium megaphone
exhaust and stubby polished aluminium mudguards helping
it stand out from the crowds, this SR400 is not only
stylish, it is also practical. With commuting in mind,
Wrenchmonkees and KEDO have converted the SR to a single
seat and used the extra space to fit a bespoke luggage
rack that carries hand-built soft panniers mounted in an
offset design.
Incorporating a subtle matt black overall look offset by
the occasional splash of chrome or bare metal, this
special from Wrenchmonkees and KEDO leaves one question
unanswered. Where did the name come from?
In
keeping with their tradition for the unusual,
Wrenchmonkees have entitled this bike the GibbonSlap
SR400 – a name derived from a knotted rope that ancient
sailors used to use to defend themselves when onshore…
From
spring 2014 onwards, there will be a selection of
special parts for sale to SR400 owners. Throughout its
long 35-year history, the SR has become a favourite
starting point for those riders seeking to create a
highly individual machine, and this collaboration
between Yamaha, Wrenchmonkees and KEDO is designed to
enable more owners to express their individuality.

Yard Built
SR400 ‘Homage’ by The Bender Brothers
Taking their
inspiration from the legendary Yamaha XT500, German
brothers Christian and Raphael Bender have released
their first Yamaha Yard Built project, the über cool
SR400, ‘Homage’. The brothers stripped back
the SR400 then added just enough to give it a
rugged, go-anywhere feel. A super cool paint scheme
and vintage graphics are complemented with custom
engine and chain covers and a unique alloy tool case
located where the original exhaust was mounted.
The custom build then includes a classic chrome
endurance style handlebar, small vintage front and
rear lights and TT500 style alloy side covers. A
custom scrambler exhaust, shortened seat and a
handmade rear rack complete the look. A small
analogue speedo adds to the stripped back vintage
style.
Following from the concept bike creation the Bender
brothers have now released a set of kit parts so
that SR400 owners can build their own Yard Built
‘Homage’. Currently available parts include custom
front and rear fenders, a rear rack, chain cover and
side plates. You can also order the front lamp, foot
pegs, gear lever and the brake lever to complete the
look. The custom seat and exhaust system will also
be available soon! You can order online at

Yard Built
SR400 ‘Lightning’ by Deus Ex Machina
Deus Ex
Machina are back and working more magic with their
latest Yard Built creations for Yamaha. The Italian Deus crew
have transformed the SR400 in a celebration of 35
years of the iconic machine. The Deus ‘Lightning’ is
a stunning creation that embodies lightness and
freedom, capturing everything the original machine
stood for.
Stripping the SR400 back, Deus then built up using
beautiful, hand crafted parts to celebrate the
bike’s legacy. The rugged scrambler-styled machine
is ready to tackle any adventure with its simple
light design.
Deus created the character of the Lightning using a
special aluminium crafted fuel tank with ‘Monza’
fuel cap, a FOX rear shock and custom CNC formed
Triple Clamps. An Sc-Project exhaust and Sprint
Filter cone system added the right sound whilst an
MX handlebar and Six Days front headlamp set off the
look.
Having made the Lightning concept a reality, Deus
have now created a second Yard Built SR400, the Deus
400. Born from the Lightning design, the Deus 400 is
available as a complete kit for those who want their
own Deus Yard Built SR400. The kit includes some
beautifully constructed pieces including a
handcrafted aluminium tank and ‘Monza’ cap, hand
crafted front and rear fenders and a new analogic
tachometer.

with their custom build and also order the off-road
handlebars, special front and rear lights and

Yard Built
SR400 ‘Stallion’ and ‘Bronco’ by KEDO
KEDO work their magic on
the SR400 to create not one, but two stunning
special builds with the vintage styled ‘Stallion and
tough, streetwise ‘Bronco.’
The German parts company’s first independent
collaborations with Yamaha have resulted in two
SR400 Yard Built creations that showcase some
similarities but deliver two very different animals.
The first, the ‘Stallion’ is dominated by sharp
lines and rounded edges, hinting at its vintage
genes.
The second, the ‘Bronco’ is a street tough machine
designed for everyday urban use with a blended mix
of vintage style and current technology topped off
with some serious flair.
Both the ‘Stallion’ and the ‘Bronco’ get the KEDO
aluminium rear swing-arm, KEDO custom handlebars,
rear sets and the custom seat units. Custom front
fenders, front lamp mask and side covers are all
designed and made in-house. The ‘Bronco’ gets a
tougher look than its brother the ‘Stallion’, and
sits up on 18inch tracker tyres.
The rider of both creations gets to enjoy the action
looking down on a Daytona ‘Velona’ speedo, analogue
lookalike clock face and dash lights integrated into
the front fork top yoke.
The ‘Stallion’s’ many changes are wrapped up a
beautiful turquoise blue metallic paint job and
Stallion logo decals whilst the ‘Bronco’s’ custom
work is complemented by an eye catching candy gold
paint job and Bronco decals.
